The Futures bright: Futures Supplies are introducing a new electrical van with zero emissions
The Futures bright: Futures Supplies are introducing a new electrical van with zero emissions

A Croydon business is driving through its eco-commitment by ordering a new £46,000 zero- emissions electric vehicle for its customer deliveries.

Futures Supplies' new van has a top speed of 50mph and can travel a distance of 120 miles on a single charge.

Electricity to run the vehicle will come from only green sources such as hydro-electricity, solar or wind power meaning that the vehicle will leave absolutely no carbon footprint - or in this case carbon "tyreprint".

The Edison truck is specially built into the body of a Ford Transit which has a long-wheel base and a high roof. this helps to make better use of the vehicle's volume capacity.

The engine is a non-pollutant and less destructive to the environment than its aging ancestor, the diesel engine.

"It’s always easier to go with the tried and tested but someone has to be the innovator and be prepared to take a chance and invest in these new technologies."
Mandie Kemp

Futures, a former winner in our Croydon Champions campaign, claimed research showed that in 12 UK cities the average speed for vehicles was 18 mph.

At this speed, diesel vans become inefficient and pump out just as much pollution as if they were travelling faster.

The vehicle is manufactured by Smith Electrical Vehicles, produces zero emissions and is exempt from road tax, congestion charging, and the new low-emission zone.

Futures founder Mandie Kemp said: "I feel we must give environmental issues our sustained, unwavering commitment.

"It's always easier to go with the tried and tested but someone has to be the innovator and be prepared to take a chance and invest in these new technologies.

"I hope that our desire to lead the way will encourage and influence other businesses."
