According to the website moneysupermarket.com, the average annual electricity bill for a four-bedroom
house comes to a whopping £1,000 per year (about half this figure if you use gas as well as electricity).
Green Energy Solutions, based in Battersea Rise, are now selling stateof-the-art solar panels ranging from £175 for a 50 watt panel, sufficient to supply a caravan, to £3,500 for a 140 watt panel, which they promise will dramatically reduce any household's electricity bill.
Although the 140 watt version may seem very expensive as an initial outlay, when you consider they last for as long as 25 years, the annual cost works out at a reasonable £140 per year.
So if we compare the two, it would cost approximately £25,000, not including inflation, to pay for 25 years worth of household electricity - an exorbitant amount of money compared to £3,500 over the same timeframe. Tim Amin, managing director, said: "We started selling the panels in January and after a slow start they are now selling well. It's not about the money for us though, we all have to do something for the environment because the situation is now getting serious.
"Most people assume that solar panels require sunlight to store energy and provide power for a property but the reality is that all they require is standard daylight.
"The panels are a great way not only to save money, especially in the current climate, but also to help the environment by controlling how much energy we use. We believe that our customers should save today for a greener tomorrow."
