New plastic bins for collecting glass were delivered to households across Sutton this week.
Residents will be able to recycle brown, green and clear glass bottles when the service begins on June 1, with lids and caps being discarded in existing brown waste bins.
Councillor Colin Hall, executive member for the environment, said the collections would help Sutton recycle 45 per cent of domestic waste by 2010. At present, the rate is nearer 30 per cent.
