Clothes shop makes the step to go green

A Kingston-based Korean retailer has proved that it doesn't take major changes for businesses to 'go green'.

Women's fashion shop, Woona, has been trading for three years and its Korean owner Jin-Sung Suh became interested in the Greening Business project after a visit from Greening business officer, Sunny Merefield.

Ms Merefield met with Jin-Sung in May 2007 and made recommendations to help introduce recycling and energy saving lighting into the business.

A year on Woona recycles cardboard with Kingstonfirst and recently re-fitted the shop's lighting with energy saving bulbs.

It cost about £800 and Go Green will support 50 per cent of the total cost with a grant.

The expected energy saving will be up to 80 per cent.

Go Green provided an action plan for Woona in Korean, which recommended ways targets could be met.

The aim of the action plan is to take the client every step of the way so they feel it is easy to be green.

Go Green informs clients of the types of light bulbs they need to purchase and where they can obtain them locally, with a contact at the Business Improvement District which recycles cardboard free of charge in Kingston.
