Using trains instead of internal flights is better for the environment. At one point Greenpeace volunteers set up a climate ticket exchange at Gatwick and Newquay airports - they offered passengers free train tickets instead. They explained to travellers that - if you take into account the time and cost of travel to airports and checking in - travelling by plane works out to be more expensive than train, only a little quicker and 10 times more damaging to the climate.
