Fly direct
Fly direct whenever possible. Landing and taking off consume the most gas during the flight. During a short flight, taking off can account for 25% of the total fuel consumption. Try to limit your flights to distances of 600 miles or more.

Leave the car behind
Instead of getting into your car to pop down to the shops, park or school, why not leave it behind for a change and walk or cycle instead?

Use trains instead of planes
Using trains instead of internal flights is better for the environment. At one point Greenpeace volunteers set up a climate ticket exchange at Gatwick and Newquay airports - they offered passengers free train tickets instead. They explained to travellers that - if you take into account the time and cost of travel to airports and checking in - travelling by plane works out to be more expensive than train, only a little quicker and 10 times more damaging to the climate.

Car Sharing
Try sharing a car when several of you are travelling to the same destination.

Take the tube
It takes as long now to cross London by car in the rush hour as it did to cross it by horse 100 years ago, so why not ditch the car and opt for public transport instead - cutting down on your carbon dioxide emissions and saving valuable time as well.

Take a holiday in your own country
When planning your summer holiday this year, think about exploring the UK rather than contributing to the jet emissions produced by millions of foreign holidays.

Leave the car behind
Instead of getting into your car to pop down to the shops, park or school, why not leave it behind for a change and walk or cycle instead?
