Youngsters at a Carshalton primary school are celebrating after being chosen as runners up in the Speaker’s School Council Awards.
Stanley Park Infants School was chosen by the judging panel as runners up in their category for which they received a commemorative plaque.
Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington awarded the youngsters with the plaque on Friday, July 13.
The scheme was launched in 2010 by House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow, and is designed to encourage interest among students in democratic values.
Schools were invited to enter the competition and youngsters at Stanley Park Infants School submitted their project called Pupil Choices.
As part of the project, children discussed how children should behave in school and the school’s council members looked into all their suggestions.
Some of the choices the children came up with included good listening and learning, trying hard and respecting each other.
Head teacher, Sharon Roberts, said she was very proud of the youngsters and added: “They were over the moon – I think because they all have ownership over it.”
