Industry leaders, television personalities and politicians met students from Lewisham College and Southwark College to find out more about apprenticeships.
The college’s construction skills day was opened by Simon Hughes, MP for Bermondsey London Assembly member Valerie Shawcross. Tommy Walsh, star of BBC’s Ground Force, rugby legend Zinzan Brooke, and Tim Campbell MBE, the first winIndustry leaders, television personalities and politicians met students from Lewisham College and Southwark College to find out more about apprenticeships.
Student teams competed in building planters to brighten up the colleege’s Bermondsey Centre, assemble electrical circuits and complete a plumbing task. A brickwork competition saw groups working outside in the cold – giving an example of what it’s like on a building site in poor weather.
Winners included Ryan Purkis (plumbing), Nicholas Lwasa (brickwork), Sam Skates (electrical), Gabriel Deever (carpentry), and Leanne Toothill (painting and decorating).
