Sprinter James Ellington visited the Norwood School yesterday to inspire aspiring athletes.
Mr Ellington told pupils how he used eBay to raise the £30,000 he needed to fund his training, which led to shaving company King of Shaves, offering the 26-year-old a sponsorship deal.
Denise Webster, headteacher of the school in Crown Dale, said: “James is a natural with our young people and gave an inspirational speech about his hopes and dreams.
“We wish James every success this summer – I know that I speak for everyone at the school when I say that we will all be cheering him on.”
