Kingston schools achieved the best GCSE results in the country, according to league tables released this week, with Tiffin Girls’ School coming top in the borough.
The results showed 68.2 per cent of Kingston pupils achieved five GCSEs at grade A* to C, a third above the national average of 50.7 per cent.
Both of the selective Tiffin schools recorded a 100 per cent success rate at GCSEs, while Richard Challoner came top of the borough’s non-selective schools, with 84 per cent and Holy Cross close behind at 81 per cent.
Coombe Boys’ and Chessington Community College came bottom with 35 and 37 per cent respectively, but both saw their results improve for the third successive year.
Councillor Patricia Bamford, executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “It is great news and a testament to all the hard work of the authority and all the schools. Kingston has always had a very good reputation and it is hard to increase from a high base, but we continue to do it.”
