A-level students at Brooklands College can quit the nail biting and enjoy their Christmas break, safe in the knowledge they can definitely finish their studies next year.
Plans to scrap the exams in July following a funding crisis were abandoned after “extensive consultation” and campaigners have hailed it a victory.
The college announced in October that it was closing its Ashford campus and stopping A-levels in Weybridge from July 2010 next year.
Tony Curme, whose 16-year-old son Alex is mid-way through his AS-levels there, described it as good news but remained cautious.
He said: “The worry now is that lecturers will start leaving to other colleges and they won’t be able to continue.
“We won’t mess Alex about because he definitely wants to stay there but we do have concerns.
“He will stay there and take his chances if they say he can continue.”
A college spokesman said: “Brooklands College is pleased to announce that its current students following A-level courses will be able to complete their qualifications at their Weybridge campus next year.
“Brooklands College welcomes applications from students for both vocational and A-level courses starting in September 2010 and looks forward to meeting potential students and their parents at their January information evening on Thursday, January 7, from 5pm to 8pm, at its Weybridge campus.”
