A man had to have 23 stitches after being slashed across the face in a terrifying unprovoked attack as he walked through Sutton town centre.
Dean Brooks was walking past the cinema in St Nicholas Way just before 2.20am on Friday, April 25, when he was approached by two men.
They attacked him with a knife, leaving him with cut wounds from his hairline to his nose.
His friends called emergency services and he was taken to hospital for treatment. Doctors were forced to shave off some of his hair before putting 23 stiches in the wound.
The 23-year-old said he was disappointed by the police's reaction to the brutal assault, claiming no one had taken a statement from him or the friends who witnessed the attack.
He also said a police "courtesy call" to check how he had been dealt with had been his only contact with the force since the night of the incident.
Dean, who cannot remember the attack because he had been drinking, said: "I am definitely scarred for life. I'm a bit disappointed with the police. It was nearly two weeks ago but they still haven't taken a statement from me or my mates who do remember the attack, and they said they had no CCTV. I don't think the blokes that did it will be caught.

"I've been waiting for the investigating officer to contact me but I think he's on holiday. I got a call on Wednesday morning from someone asking how I felt about how the investigation was being dealt with and I had to say it was the first time I'd heard from them."
A spokesman for Sutton police confirmed the attack was unprovoked. He added that the police had contacted Dean for a statement and that his clothing had been taken for testing.
"Police conducted a wide search of the area looking for the suspects," he said.

If what we read in the news is correct, the police go for the 'easy' nick these days in order to hit their targets. Catching real criminals is resource hungry and distracts the police from raising revenue for the Labour government.
The answer's a speed camera - now what's the question?
Nothing about this country gets any better.

true though. the police care about money more than our safety. thats been made clear over the last 10 years.

[/quote] I don't think it's the police, Labour have steadily reduced the number of police whilst replacing them with PCSO's who are only good for handing out fines, whilst on top of this imposing ridiculous targets for crime solving leaving no choice for the police but to go for soft crime. The solution is more manpower, to be able to concentrate on serious crime and to be given stop and search powers but I fear we're now too far down the wooly liberal road where all you have to do is scream "human rights abuse" and the police will run a mile.

I have lived in Sutton all of my life and i am afraid to say that because of all the clubs and pubs that have now sprung up i would not dare walk down sutton hight street at night. The only people to blame are the councils for alowing these places to open. PS I hope that these mindless thugs get caught and get what they deserve this young man is scared for life.

With all the CCT camera's in Sutton I'm sure there must be footage of the attackers. Why are they putting Police officers on the a217 trying to catch people out when you should be trying to get the real criminals

How long will it be and what will it take for Sutton Police to actually do some Policing and sort out the massive amount of violent crimes that happen in this Borough? It seems that they sit in their state of the art Police station talking but doing very little. My husband had suffered a permanent injury due to an unprovoked attack. where were Sutton police? Elsewhere, everyone of them dealing with a less serious accident mob handed. How can we feel safe or mores the point allow our teenagers normal freedom when the Police are so useless and this sort of incident happens more and more. My husband like this man had no Police help and the follow up call was full of self justifying poor excuses. This Borough was once a fantastic place to live, no more I'm very sorry to say
