Our winning vet Margo Scott. MM4888

After weeks of nominations, the Kingston Guardian team has worked its way through the piles of letters, texts and email votes and can finally announce that the winner of Kingston's Best Vet is Margo Scott from New Malden Vets.

It has been a close-run thing, with Sinead Armstrong from Michael Hamblin's Veterinary Surgery in Chessington in second place and Lucy Hancox from the the A F O'Meara Veterinary Practice in Chessington in third. Mrs Scott said: "I'm delighted, and a bit embarrassed, to have won! I'd like to say thank you to all my clients."

Comments about Mrs Scott that have been sent in to us include "Margo has treated and cared for my dog and cats over many years with great empathy, kindness and medical skill" and "Margo has looked after our cats through long-term illnesses and always shown such loving compassion right up to the end".

Mrs Scott took over the New Malden Vets in 2003, having worked there since 1984. She lives in Woking with her husband, two children and menagerie of pets. "We have a horse, two dogs and three cats at the moment, but we've had at one point or another rabbits, rats and chickens. It's a bit of a farm really," she said.

Having worked at the Hope and Davies Practice for over 20 years, Margo has enjoyed getting to know each pet and their owner. She said: "Most of my clients are so nice. I've seen families and their pets go through generations."

The winner of a bottle of champagne for texting her vote in is Liz Shaw from Kingston.

Margo has cared compassionately and professionally for all our cats and is a super vet. Well deserved this honour.
