Las Fuentes

3:22pm Tuesday 29th May 2007

Stepping into Las Fuentes is like transporting yourself to a little part of Spain, writes Gary O'Connell.

The tapas bar buzzes with the sound of laughter and chatter and the tantalising aromas wafting from the open kitchen are an indication of what is to come.

The restaurant was recently taken over by new owners Freddy Faria and Manuel Andrade, and the first thing that strikes you as you arrive is the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We sampled a range of authentic tapas dishes including calamares, fresh prawns, chorizo cooked in a Rioja wine sauce and lamb kebabs teamed with a fresh, green salad and washed down with a glass of red wine.

The portions are generous and dishes are reasonably priced from £3 to £5.50.

And if the tapas menu does not offer enough choice, there is also the daily specials board, featuring a range of meat, fish and vegetarian options. The restaurant also has an à la carte menu.

There is also a sweet trolley or you could opt for Spanish Manchego cheese and biscuits, followed by coffee and a choice of Spanish liquors.
