Super-fit Wilder wins Dulwich Charity 10k

Herne Hill Harriers runner Brian Wilder won the Dulwich Charity 10km race.

Men's winner: Brian Wilder. Men's winner: Brian Wilder.

The Australian chiropractor, who had gone on a 13-mile training run on the morning of the race, clocked 33 minutes one second to take the lead from 2007 race winner James Trapmore in the final third of the race.

Trapmore, of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, finished second (33.23), with Alex Gibbins, of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers, third (33:56).

Wilder is in training for the New York Marathon on November 1 when he hopes to better the impressive time of 2:27.59 he set in the Berlin Marathon.

Serpentine’s Rachel Whitaker, who lives in Greenwich, won the women’s race (40:25) ahead of Clapham Chasers’ Rachel Bentley (41:13) and Greenwich Tritons’ Kate Sanders (42:21).

Winning men’s team: London Heathside. Leading women’s team: Dulwich Park Runners.

Veteran winners: Men’s over-40 Stephen Dipre (New Eltham Joggers) 37.36, over-50 Steve Goodwin (Winchester & District) 40.06. Women’s over-40 Marie Evans (Winchester & District) 45.02, over-50 Clare Parkinson (Dulwich Park Runners) 49.19.

Local charity Springboard, which provides literacy support to disadvantaged children in inner-city primary schools, will receive all profits from the event and from the charity cake stall organised by host club Dulwich Runners organised.

Dulwich Runners, a friendly road and cross country running club boasting 250 members, is keen to welcome new runners to its club runs on a Wednesday evening, which meet at the Edward Alleyn Club at 7pm.
