A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed in Sutton yesterday (October 12) after a crash with a lorry.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in Cheam Road at the junction with Sutton High Street shortly after 11.28am when police were called.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with enquiries.

No arrests have been made and his next of kin have been informed.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Merton Traffic Garage is investigating.

DS John Hartfree, leading the investigation, said: “This incident happened at a busy time of day and there would have been a lot of motorists in the area who may have seen what happened.

“We would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can piece together what happened.”
